We’re hosting another pop-up! It’s scheduled for Sat. 2/27 at Oaklandish. What you can expect?
First things first, what’s a pop-up? For us, it is a temporary event that typically lasts four hours where we bring together a group of people (aka repair shops) who would otherwise not be found in the same place at the same time.
Why does Repair Revolution host them? We love the synergy it creates. We think repair professionals have more in common than not, and when they are all in the same room a special community forms. All participants have dedicated their professional life to fixing things for other people. They are curious of mind and spirit, love to solve problems, and are experts in their field. Plus, we believe repair shops don’t get nearly enough credit for the number of benefits they bring to the community. They avoid waste and reduce pressure on natural resources, increase joy by allowing people to enjoy their things for longer, run small businesses which are critical to our local economy, and thereby add resilience to our neighborhood and planet. We think they are heroic and we work hard to raise their profile. We use pop-ups to create easy access to their services while promoting the benefits of choosing repair over replacing things.
Who attends and why? Repair shops who participate get great exposure and new customers. Attendees enjoy free access to a curated group of repair experts. Plus, people can save loads of time by going to one event instead of visiting each shop individually, especially if someone needs several things repaired. To be clear, the event is free to attend but payment is required for repair services rendered.
What is your favorite part? The buzz. Meeting new people. Seeing people be inspired and excited over simple actions. It has positive ripple effects, it’s contagious and fun.
Come see what it’s all about on Sat. Feb. 27, 2016 from 12-4pm at Oaklandish, 1444 Broadway, Oakland. We hope to see you there!
